FAQ about the Upcoming Auditions

  1. Why are we having Unified Auditions again in February when we just had them in September?
The Producers' Forum voted on moving the auditions back to February. Theatres like seeing people mid-season as a contrast to seeing people at their own individual general auditions. Therefore, we're having supplemental auditions in order to get them back to a February timetable.
  2. I auditioned in September; do I need to audition again?
No. The Producers were able to see you in September, and don't need to see you again.
  3. I wasn't able to audition in September, what do I need to do to sign up?
Please email the following to auditions@southfloridatheatre.com:
    • a headshot
    • a ONE PAGE resume
    • basic contact information, including a phone number you can be reached at on the day of auditions
    • let me know if you're singing or not
  4. I emailed my information. Now what?
Andie Arthur will return your email with an audition timeslot. For those of you who emailed your information this week, you will recieve timeslots this afternoon/evening.
  5. What do I need to prepare for the auditions?
Prepare a 60-second monologue of your choice. Your 60 seconds will begin with the first word out of your mouth following the announcement of your name and number if you choose to introduce your name and number. You will be asked to stop your audition promptly after 60 seconds - NO EXCEPTIONS.

You will have the option to sing 16 bars of a song of your choice following your monologue. An accompanist will be provided. No taped accompaniment. Please have clear copies of published vocal selection music in plastic sheets in a binder or secured on cardboard or taped together. Your music must be in the key you sing and clearly marked as to dynamics, tempos, articulation, repeats, and endings. DO NOT arrive with no music, ask the accompanist, "Do you know...?", give arrangements that exist in your head and not on paper, give last minute instructions, or have unwritten transpositions. DO briefly explain your needs to the accompanist upon entering the audition holding area before your monologue.
  6. I'm not singing 16 bars, may I have additional time for a contrasting monologue?
No. The producers have requested to keep the time constraint to 60 seconds.
  7. I can't email my headshot and resume. What should I do?
Please let Andie Arthur know that you're having technical difficulties by emailing her at info@southfloridatheatre.com. We'll work something out.
  8. When is the deadline for the auditions?
You must submit your information by February 8, 2008 in order to audition on February 18th. No exceptions.
  9. I want to volunteer for the auditions. What can I do?
Thanks for asking! We need at least five volunteers. You can be a timekeeper, shepherd actors between the holding area and the theatre, work the registration table, man the phone for directions, or help set up lunch. Volunteers will be asked to help starting at 9:30 AM with arrivals and unloading. Lunch will be provided. If you're interested, please contact Andie Arthur at info@southfloridatheatre.com or at 954-557-0778.
  10. I already sent in my hole punched headshots and resumes based on last year's information. What do I do?
Andie will be in touch shortly on how to get your headshots and resumes back to you.
  11. I'm not an actor. I'm a designer/technician/stage manager. I still would like to have my information available to producers. What do I do?
Email your resume to tlsfauditions and it will be included in the book for the producers. If you submitted a resume for the September auditions, you do not need to submit another resume.
  12. On the day of the auditions, what should I do?
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your timeslot and check in at the registration table.
  13. I need to cancel my audition. What should I do?
You must cancel by Friday, February 15, by contacting Andie Arthur. Failure to contact her by then means you cannot audition in 2009.
  14. Which theatres will be attending?
RSVPs are still coming in from the theatre companies. We expect about 30 theatre companies, including The Naked Stage, Palm Beach Dramaworks, New Vista Theatre Company, and Mosaic Theatre. As more Theatres RSVP, a list will be announced of participating theatres.
  15. What should I expect from the theatres?
Many theatres use this audition as an "open call." If they are interested in learning more about you, they will call you to come in for another audition at their theatre or to request an original picture or resume for their files.
  16. I'm not a member of The Theatre League of South Florida, can I audition?
Only members of the League can audition. Join here!
